Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne coming to the Sound Garden next week
It’s pretty cool that a band as out there as the Flaming Lips can headline a place as big as Merriweather Post Pavilion, but such a venue doesn’t exactly scream “intimate setting.” So if you’ve ever wanted to get a bit more up close and personal with consummate weirdo, Lips frontman Wayne Coyne, you’ll get your chance February 11 at the Sound Garden, when Coyne will stop by the Fells Point CD and record shop to sign copies of the band’s recently reissued debut EP, The Flaming Lips 1st EP.
A limited edition version of the 12-inch is housed with a life-sized, anatomically correct skull made out of chocolate, because of course it does. Much like Willy Wonka’s golden ticket, the chocolate skull comes with a gold coin that grants you admission to any Flaming Lips headlining show. At present, there aren’t any local tour dates scheduled, but you can bet the band will come around in the spring or summer to support their two 2013 releases, Peace Sword and The Terror. The meet-and-greet starts at 5 p.m. Get there early.
