Animal Collective release new music video, schedule new 9:30 Club date, get Oriole Park love

Animal Collective released a really weird — even by their standards — video for “Monkey Riches,” the latest single off the 2012 album Centipede Hz. It features a cruel old man who is also a rope charmer, rope monsters, a spinning diamond, and more. You can watch it in all its strange splendor here:

If, like me, you were one of the unlucky 9:30 Club patrons who missed out on seeing the band back in June because the power was knocked out (it was especially unfortunate because they played a pretty spectacular show the very next night), you’ll be happy to learn a new D.C. date has been scheduled for Dec. 1.

Lastly, as a thank you for the Q&A in our Big Music Issue, Orioles DJ Bob Popik played a little bit of “Summertime Clothes” — I suggested he check the band out while we were spitballing about music after the interview — between innings of Sunday’s Orioles game. It was nice to hear a band with local roots make it into Popik’s mix of offbeat choices. Thanks, Bob!
