J. Roddy Walston and the Business release new song

July 12, 2013

DSC_2728-300x199J. Roddy Walston and the Business released “Heavy Bells,” off Essential Tremors, their first album with ATO, the label that is also home to the Drive-by Truckers, the Alabama Shakes, and My Morning Jacket.

Back in March, when they first signed to ATO, Walston told City Paper that the band was headed down to Valdosta, Ga. to record Essential Tremors. Today, he told us that the record is done, the band is back home, and ready to release it on Sept. 10 and play a homecoming show at Rams Head Live on Sept. 20.

The track has the same mix of hard-driving rock ‘n’ roll and southern melody that we’ve come to expect from the Business. But, it also reveals new layers of the band’s sound–and brilliantly captures some of the heaviness that is so evident in their hair-flinging live sets. And though “Heavy Bells” lacks J. Roddy’s signature Jerry Lee Lewis/ Professor Longhair piano, have no fear, he still thumps away at those keys elsewhere on Essential Tremors.
