Maryland Menace Guests On New Lil Scrappy Album
When it’s kind of your job to know the name of any rapper from Maryland that’s making noise, it’s a little surprising to see that some heretofore unknown entity named Maryland Menace appears on the new album from a national star. This week Lil Scrappy, the Atlanta rapper once signed with superstars Lil Jon and 50 Cent, released his second full-length, The Grustle, through the Universal Records-owned independent distributor Fontana. And among big names like 2 Chainz and Twista, the album’s guest list includes someone named Maryland Menace on the track “Ice T.”
Maryland Menace’s Facebook profile doesn’t specify where in MD the rapper is from, or if it’s anywhere around Baltimore, but it appears his most recent concerts were in Frederick and Washington, D.C., opening for Rick Ross sidekick Gunplay. “Ice T” is a silly, upbeat street rap anthem with a chorus that riffs on an older rap star, in the tradition of Ross’s “MC Hammer.” Maryland Menace’s hyped-up doubletime flow on the second verse is a highlight of the song, lending a refreshing contrast to Scrappy’s more sluggish style. Whether he’s repping Baltimore or the DMV in general, it’s good to see a rapper on the rise so proud to be from Maryland that it’s part of his name.
