Rome Cee Gets Back in the Ring
At two and a half minutes, “Black Ring” is quite a big longer than “Black Messiah Freestyle,” but still pretty compact, and crammed full of quotables. One moment he’s brunchin’ at a luncheon with internal rhymes galore, the next he’s slurring “Maryland” in his Balmer accent until it turns into “Merlin,” while producer Dischoe lays down a crisp, jazzy beat. And then there’s that hook about Mike Tyson’s face tattoo, which is hard to make much sense of but sure sounds cool.
