Listen: Street Scott, “Rocket Man”
Baltimore-based hip-hop producer Street Heat has been selling tracks out of town for years, most notably to various members of New York’s Diplomats crew. But as an artist in his own right, he also records for local label Team Arson Music alongside another talented rapper/producer, PenDragon. And just as Street Heat appeared to be coming into his own with the R&B-tinged 2009 mixtape Found Nowhere, he changed his handle to Street Scott a few months ago and kept that momentum going with guest verses on tracks by Ogun, Smash, Billy Lyve, and Prenz Bilal.
“Rocket Man” is the street single from Street Scott’s first solo release under his new name, the forthcoming Onto Something Beautiful. And though it was produced by Swiff-D, it maintains the moody, textured approach of Found Nowhere and allows the beatmaker to focus on his raps and hooks to great effect. Street Scott also handily upstages Team Arson labelmate Dre Babes on another just released single, “Bonafide Hustler,” from the latter’s Get Into That Dre Babes Pt. 2.
