Soft Shell Crab Week Starts Today
You know the seasons have changed when Baltimore restaurants start promoting soft-shells: Get ready for the Downtown Partnership’s annual Official Soft Shell Crab Week, which goes from today until June 1st—technically 10 days, but I think Baltimore Beer Week is a month, so who’s counting.
During this week, many downtown chefs are adding soft shells on their menus, including Alexander’s Tavern, B&O American Brasserie, Cinghiale, Diamond Tavern, Kona Grill, La Scala, McCormick & Schmick’s, Miss Shirley’s, The Oceanaire, Phillips Seafood, The Prime Rib, Regi’s, and Ryleigh’s Oyster.
The shedding cycle of our dear Chesapeake Bay blue crab typically runs May through September. Downtown Partnership began this Soft-Shell Crab Celebration in 2010.
“After the winter we had, I think everyone in Baltimore deserves to treat themselves to the incredible soft-shell dishes our Downtown restaurants are serving up,” Downtown Partnership President Kirby Fowler said in a press release.
