Food with a view (of the fireworks)
Some of the tastiest views in town for the fireworks come at a price – or with careful planning. For some, the best way to enjoy the sparklers is with a full belly at a ringside restaurant seat. Here are a few suggestions, though no guarantees that reservations are still available:
• Rusty Scupper’s annual Independence Day Crab Feast (top) in the Topside Lounge and upper decks is as good as it gets for harbor views. All-you-can-eat buffet starts at 5:30. $89.95 for adults, $30 for kids.
• Across the way, Wit & Wisdom prepares a meat-heavy feast with pit beef, pulled pork, and brats (oysters and shrimp too), plus corn-on-the-cob and that old July 4th favorite, barbecued eggplant. $70 for adults (includes one drink), $35 for kids.
• Wit’s Asian sibling Pabu has invited guest chefs Kyle Bailey of Birch & Barley, Tiffany MacIsaac of Neighborhood Restaurant Group, and Will Morris of Vermilion to put together a family-style meal including shellfish, salads, and a platter of barbecued ribs, chicken, and fish. Don’t worry, sushi will also be available. $65.
• Bond Street Social, Waterfront Kitchen, and Ra Sushi have no plans to speak of other than, well, proximity. Bond Street’s 80-oz “social drinks,” served in oversized Mason jars, or liquid nitrogen martinis should keep you happy till the first pop, and at Ra, try a Fuzzy Momo Bellini (bottom), a spiked slurpy made with sparkling wine, rum and fruit puree. As for Waterfront, snagging a spot on the deck is worth the price of entry, especially if that price translates to pan-seared rockfish with greens grown by nearby middle-schoolers and washed down with a sparkling Brut.
