Charlie Gjerde of Spike and Charlie’s to open Papi’s Tacos in Fells Point

IMG_0223Lookee what we spotted in Fells Point this morning: A notice at 703 Aliceanna St. – the former home of Lulu’s Off-Broadway among other things – about an application to transfer a liquor license for a new restaurant at the location, called “Papi’s Tacos.”

Perhaps most interesting, the notice says the application was filed by Charles Gjerde, presumably the brother of Woodberry Kitchen chef Spike Gjerde and Spike’s partner in Spike and Charlie’s, Carrie Podles, the owner of Alexander’s Tavern nearby on Broadway, and John Burke.

We’re excited for any new Gjerde enterprise in town, but we can’t help but wonder about the wisdom of opening a taco joint just a couple blocks down from Upper Fells Point, aka taco heaven, where Tortilleria Sinaloa, Pizzeria y Taqueria, and La Sirenita II reign supreme.
