Mosby States Attorney Campaign to Rally in . . . Boston?

July 12, 2013

Mosby slideshow-image3We’re in for a surreal campaign for States Attorney. On the heels of missives blasting State’s Attorney Gregg Bernstein’s lack of leadership (she called him “a man who would not leave the cozy confines of his $11M office”) in the current murder spike, former Assistant SA Marilyn Mosby (who is married to 7th District City Councilman Nick Mosby), sends the following impassioned email, reproduced here in full and unedited because . . . well, just read it:

Marilyn Mosby Takes Enough Is Enough Peace Rally

to Boston

Marilyn Mosby, Candidate for Baltimore City State’s Attorney, will head to her childhood home of Boston tonight to participate in their first Enough Is Enough Peace Rally. Councillor Tito Jackson, who represents the neighborhood of Roxbury, learned of the Enough Is Enough Peace Rally via social media and decided to implement the same initiative with community stakeholders there.  “What we saw Councilman Nick Mosby and Mrs. Marilyn Mosby do in Baltimore was inspiring.  In Boston, we are energized by their efforts and  are looking forward to bringing individuals together to take back their community and letting everyone know there is no place for violence” said Councillor Jackson. “We will be doing a series of coordinated peace rallies that will begin to address the increase in violence in the community. Participants can expect community, they can expect unity, and they can expect to have a voice.”

The Enough Is Enough Peace Rallies began in April as a partnership between the Office of Councilman Nick J. Mosby, Marilyn Mosby, Esq., the Baltimore City Police Department, clergy and community stakeholders in response to a spike in violence in West Baltimore. Fourteen weeks later, over 200 people have met every Friday evening to walk and pray throughout West Baltimore and Cherry Hill. “I believe the effectiveness of the Enough Is Enough Peace Rally is proven every week,” says Mosby. “And the fact that other people see it and want to implement it in their own communities in other parts of the country speaks volumes to the power of what happens when the entire community-the police, elected officials, the church and community stakeholders-come together.”

Mosby understands the power of community interaction and involvement. When she was a teenager, her cousin, a 17-year-old honor student, was murdered. The testimony of a neighbor that witnessed the murder helped Boston prosecutors to convict the murderer.  “It was because of my neighbor’s courageousness that I became a prosecutor, and worked so hard as Assistant State’s Attorney in Baltimore to convict those who preyed upon our most vulnerable citizens,” says Mosby.

Marilyn Mosby is running for Baltimore City State’s Attorney. She is a successful former Baltimore City prosecutor who regularly tried Baltimore’s toughest cases. For more information or to get involved with the campaign, please visit www.marilynmosby.com.

The Enough Is Enough Boston Peace Rally  will meet on the corner of Walnut Avenue and Fenno Street in Roxbury tonight at 7p.m. For more information, contact Councillor Tito Jackson’s office at 617.635.3510.
