edwardsAmid the back and forth about the qualifications of interim schools CEO Tisha Edwards (pictured) to assume the top job, Edwards has signed a perk-packed one-year contract with a base salary of $225,000, which is $50,000 more than her previous salary as outgoing CEO Dr. Andres Alonso’s chief of staff, but $5,000 less than Alonso’s first-year contract, and $35,000 less than his last contract.

The contract includes a slew of perks, including a car and driver, 24 vacation days and 12 personal days (all of which can be cashed in if unused), and a 30% annuity – amounting to roughly $70,000 – to be put into a retirement account on Edwards’ behalf.

Edwards will report directly to the school board, which says it will conduct a national search for a new superintendent, though some, including Jimmy Gittings Jr., president of PSASA, the schools administrators’ union, have called for Edwards to win the position permanently.
