Semifinalists for Sondheim Artscape Prize Announced

The Janet and Wal­ter Sond­heim Artscape Prize, which awards $25,000 to an up-and-coming visual artist or visual-artist col­lab­o­ra­tors liv­ing and work­ing in the Greater Bal­ti­more area, has announced its semi­fi­nal­ists. The list of more 40 semi­fi­nal­ists will be whit­tled down to about six final­ists who will have their work dis­played in the Alvin and Fanny Blaustein Thal­heimer Gal­leries of the Bal­ti­more Museum of Art June 16 through July 29.

Jurors for this year’s sev­enth annual com­pe­ti­tion include cura­tor Car­los Basu­aldo, gallery direc­tor Jane Hait, and artist Shinique Smith. A recep­tion will fol­low the highly antic­i­pated announce­ment of the prize win­ner on July 14 at the BMA. A few days after that, on July 20, a com­plete exhi­bi­tion of the remain­ing semi­fi­nal­ists’ work will go on dis­play in the Decker and Mey­er­hoff gal­leries of MICA through Aug. 5.
