So this happened: A group of protesters picketed in front of City Paper‘s Park Avenue offices today. They have taken offense at the paper’s coverage of Local 333 of the International Longshoreman’s Association, as published on Nov. 24. Both past Local 333 President Riker “Rocky” McKenzie and Local 333 member Kenny Jackson were on hand.

It certainly seems ironic that the CP ran a piece lamenting how difficult it is for released prisoners to find work, then another article seemingly condemning the union for helping them do just that

  • Oxenstjerna

That story sure resonated with them.

    they truly resonate!

The unions across the USA have done more damage to the workplaces across American than a good ole fashioned ‘carpet bombing run’. Their action in front of this particular newspaper comes out of the Communist Manifesto. If you disagree with something, then attack the messenger, not the real culprits(unions). Obama is in the back pockets of the unions and he will not be able to repay his debt to them, because the tab is TOO HIGH.

Yeah, fuck those slaves. The working people of the world need to shut the fuck up, learn their place and lick the dog shit off the boots of the wealthy. That’s the only reason they exist. Right, my fellow Republicans?

  • Union Proud

You should get your fact’s straight. Enjoy a 40 hr. work week? Thank Unions! Weekends? You’re welcome! Union’s created the term ” middle class “, before that it was rich and poor. Sound familar? Compulsory education? Union’s fought for that to get children out sweat shops. Before you post you should get your facts straight and understand when Union’s were powerful and corporations were contained was a time of great prosperity for most of the country.

Unions did some good, way back when.

Now they are corrupt trash – from top to bottom

Today’s Unions are now responsible for all the jobs that have moved overseas, they are responsible for the deaths in New York during the latest snow storm due to their work slow-down and Unions are the biggest reasons our schools suck. The only thing Unions do now is make their Union leaders rich at the expense of their members and lost jobs in this country.

Right, you’re either a union worker or a wealthy Republican slave holder. Tell you what, buddy, the vast majority of us are good old fashioned hard workers, who aren’t wealthy, but also lack the privileges you and your union cronies get.

Guaranteed work? Not hardly; we have to bust our humps to keep our jobs. Lavish pensions? Yeah, right. Cadillac health plans? We’re lucky if there’s even one available that can include our families (note: they push for “Health Care Reform”, then managed to get themselves an exemption).

Unions are bankrupting my state, with over a trillion dollars in unfunded pensions. Are the unions willing to renegotiate to keep us out of bankruptcy? Hell no. They’ve got theirs. The rest of us can take a hang.

My “Union Proud” pall below is right in that the organized labor movement was in front of a lot of the “progressive” initiatives taken in the first part of the century. But today, they greedy, selfish, and looking out for themselves. Plus, with powerful connections between unions like the SEIU, they’ve got Obama in their pockets, and they’re working their agenda at the expense of the rest of the country.

Unions membership accounts for 12.3 of the workforce, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics). Once downtrodden, they’re the new elite. Sort of reminds me of the Pigs from Animal Farm.

Joe Valachi, when referring to Union Management, said it best, “To me, a union guy is just a pimp.”
