Baltimore Beltway Scores High In Nation’s Suckiest Commutes

September 28, 2010

. . . But still probably lower than you imagine: 21st out of 75, according to a ranking from the Daily Beast of America’s worst commutes. Washington, D.C.’s Capital Beltway, e.g. the first circle of Dante’s Inferno, made No. 3 on the list, while Los Angeles’ Hollywood Freeway holds the first position, with 646 hours of bottleneck cogestion per week. The Baltimore Beltway gets a mere 152 hours a week of congestion.

Los Angeles also has an impressive nine rail/rapid-bus transit projects in the works currently, to Baltimore’s dawdling one (the Red Line). So maybe we’ll catch up someday.

Wow! LA’s highways have nearly 4 times as many hours of congestion each week than there are hours in a week!

The Hollywood Freeway, with 646 hours of bottleneck congestion a week, has presumably more than one bottleneck. This is, believe it or not, a thing that is possible on a highway.

Think I’ll stick to just doing the shorter and one off marathon here and there though!
    Good luck!
