The Point in Fells

June 16, 2010
By

Cringe-inducing name aside, The Point in Fells (1738 Thames St., [410]327-7264), which opened May 28, has already garnered the attention of Baltimore foodies and critics in the almost three weeks it’s been open.

Specializing in American fare, the Point offers entrees such as flatbread pizza and steak, alongside more unusual dishes such as braised pork belly, arctic char, and avocado and blue crab parfaits. The menu is split in two, offering large portions ($18 to $24) and small plates ($10 to $14). “Pub grub” and lunch selections are also offered.

Co-owner Erica Russo is no stranger to food business. Her parents, Eva and Jimmy Chin, own Edie’s Deli and Grill at the Inner Harbor, and she has managed a number of restaurants, including the Greene Turtle and the now-defunct Lucille’s at Power Plant Live.

The location has a storied past. The original Miss Irene’s was a much beloved dive bar. When it was transformed into an upscale restaurant in 2009 under new management, locals, who loved the dingy hang-out, were aghast. Shortly after Miss Irene’s 2.0 closed, the restaurant was turned into Poe Boys, an oyster bar, only to shut down a few months later.

People who haven't lived in or been to Fells Point in 15 years are the only people longing for the old Miss Irene's. Get over it.

Buying drugs and getting stabbed isn't a 'gritty salt-of-the-earth experience'. And people moving in fixing things up aren't 'yuppies'; we're people who actually enough to spend our money and sweat to change things.

    Miss Irene's is dead. Yay!!!

Horrible service!!! Especially from the owner Erica Chin! She needs to get over herself!

Wow you must not know what you are talking about since the owners name is Erica Russo look at the article and she was a pleasure to work with since I booked my rehersal dinner with her at the Point. Food was amazing, service was great and reasonable prices. The view was amazing and Erica catered to our every need and was extremely professional. I noticed even though she was busy with our party she still seem to make it to the tables to introduce herself which I thought was very classy. So don't HATE!!

Well excuse me, the article stated her parents last name was Chin. That's where I got the mix up. And I'm so sorry that you have to stoop that low to have your rehearsal dinner at this crappy place. Obviously, you are trash…just like this place and all of the people who work here!
