Two New Places to Eat in Charles Village

Spring has come to Baltimore, and with it, two new eateries. As of Tuesday, Charles Village can claim its first Italian restaurant in recent memory, Maxie’s (3003 N. Charles St., [410] 889-1113), a gourmet pizza/grill/bar in a location previously occupied by Xando. Though its buffalo-chicken pizza has yet to stand the test of time against local student grub stalwarts such as PJ’s or Hopkins Deli, no one is complaining about a pizza joint coming to the area (except maybe the 7-Eleven next door, which can probably expect a drop in calzone sales).

Around the corner, C&C Carryout has metamorphosed into Ajumma (3121 St. Paul St., [410] 235-4429), a cuter and more user-friendly version of its predecessor. Before, you felt like you had discovered a diamond in the rough if you managed to look past the singularly uninviting interior and try the food. Now, Baltimoreans will relish the opportunity to sit outside Ajumma in comfy red and black chairs while enjoying the same hearty Korean food served by the same friendly staff that made C&C Carryout a CV staple.
