The March issue of Harper’s serves as a reminder of what a great magazine can be. Gideon Lewis-Kraus’ “The Last Book Party” recalls the tight-lipped feel of an 1960s Esquire bit by Gay Talese or Truman Capote. Washington Editor Ken Silverstein’s “Invisible Hands” conveys an intimacy with the secret world of oil deal brokers bordering on the incredible. And Jon Mooallem’s “Raiders of the Lost R2″ achieves that to which many reporters aspire: a published quote reading, “I’m on good terms with Squid Head.”
