The Baltimore Museum of Art is encouraging local ” beatboxers, DJs, musicians, poets, and spoken-word artists” to apply to its Sound Off! special event in conjunction with its current sublime, convivial, and madcap retrospective of Austrian artist Franz West, To Build a House You Start With the Roof: Work, 1972-2008, which runs through Jan. 4, 2009. Local artist are invited to document a “creative response to the exhibition” and post it to the BMA’s YouTube.com page. The winners–picked by a combination of popular vote and judges, including BMA director Doreen Bolger, the tireless To Build a House curator Darsie Alexander, and Creative Alliance at the Patterson artistic director Jedd Dodds–will be invited to perform at the BMA Friday, Dec. 5.
