Ouch: According to an April 12 story in Broadcasting and Cable, Jon Leiberman, the former Washington bureau chief for Cockeysville-based Sinclair Broadcast Group who cut his teeth at SBG’s Fox 45, was denied unemployment benefits by the Maryland Department of Labor. Leiberman, you might recall, was fired after he slammed his employer for airing the anti-John Kerry Stolen Honor “news” special shortly before last November’s election.
Space Cadet: There’s not enough hours in the day to spend time reading U.S. Senate conirmation hearing transcripts, but NASA administrator nominee Michael Griffin’s (via SpaceRef.com) has so many local connections, the Third Floor would be remiss if we didn’t link it. First Maryland senators Mikulski and Sarbanes do most of the ass-kissing, um, we mean talking. The reason being, Griffin is a native son, educated at our finest institutions, and heads up the space department at the JHU Applied Physics Laboratory in Howard County. And, Griffin will be the one making decisions on Homewood’s endangered Hubble Space Telescope.
